Offering to the Dead   video - performance

 

In order to introduce awareness to the local community about the uncontrolled logging - which takes place in my area - , I placed funeral offerings with poems on cut trees.Local people potentially could notice them and read the funeral texts on them.

This project has taken place at several dead trees in the forest of Koziakas, and in a way it is reciprocal to the “Flimsy face” project. There, mapping the age of the cut trees I was introduced into a recording of their biography. Time by time, year by year, as if it had been a clock where time runs until their personal end, this biography inevitably ends up to their cutting moment. Afterwards I write in site an improvised poem and I offer it to the tree along with a sculpture/offer. These poems are threnodies for the trees and answers for the humans. As if the trees wanted to talk to us about their death. The tree becomes my consciousness and via it I transmit the message to the human world.
